The Walya Antelopes of Ethiopia have arrived in Ghana ahead of Sunday’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations opening qualifier with the Black Stars.
A 33-man contingent touched down at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra mid-morning on Thursday before connecting to Kumasi, where the game will be played.
Among the contingent was head coach Ashenafi Bekele, who named 22 players for the trip. Ethiopia enjoyed a three-week residential camping and played a warm-up game against Uganda last Saturday.
The squad includes Egypt-based duo Shemeles Bekele and Oumed Okuri who play for Petroject and El-Entag El-Harby respectively. Okuri, who is among the top scorers in the Egyptian league, is making a return to the national team after two years.
St George forward and Caf Champions League top scorer Salahdin Said, who also has 15 goals in the domestic league, made the trip as did leading scorer Gethane Kebede of Dedebit FC.
supersport.com has confirmed that the Ethiopia national team will be using the Opoku Ware Senior High School facility to train before the mandatory use of the match venue, Baba Yara Stadium, on Saturday.
