For quite some time, the Oslo “Noble Prize” has been thrown like toys. In fact, this “prize” becomes a blood-stained toy this year, and it is thrown to Abiyot Ahmed (Aka Abiy Ahmed). Abiy Ahmed is the chairman of the notorious Ethiopian Peoples Democratic Front (EPRDF). As the world knows, EPRDF is infamous for massacring, torturing, silencing, displacing and looting Ethiopians for more than 3 decades*.
Abiy Ahmed’s party is responsible for the ethnic cleansing of Amaras in Wolkait, Raya, Metekel, Shewa and the Southern states of Ethiopia. If a few of these cleansed citizens were European descent, Abiy Ahmed could have gone to the international criminal court for trial, not to Oslo for the peace prize. By awarding the chair of a criminal party, they are playing games on African lives and recruiting a slave that will serve them in East Africa.
Although the noble prize was established by the Swedish Alfred Noble, the Norwegian Noble committee selects the awardees. The noble committee is selected by the Norwegian parliament, and it is composed of politicians, not saints.
It appears that the Norwegian politicians are highly connected to the criminal EPRDF that massacred tens of thousands of Ethiopians and displaced millions. In 2005, the Norwegian company, Yara Foundation awarded Meles Zenawi ignoring the cries of dead souls he massacred and the tears of Ethiopians he made suffer. Meles Zenawi was a heinous dictator, whom Abiy Ahmed served as a slave without questioning his authority.
Since Abiy Ahmed grabbed Zenawi’s blood-soaked chair, Ethiopia has lost even the superficial peace is practiced. Since Abiy took power, millions of Ethiopians have been displaced and thousands killed: Hundreds of Amara human rights activists and politicians are incarcerated. As we speak, people cannot freely move in the region controlled by Abiy Ahmed’s ethnic party. But what matters for the Norwegian noble committee is Abiy Ahmed’s phony handshake with the dictators of Sudan and Eritrea.
We expected this travesty of justice was coming when Abiy Ahmed spent most of his time touring neighboring countries as soon as he was pushed to the throne. By the time the noble committee awards the chairperson of EPRDF, the souls of the massacred weep in the Sky, and the eyes of the disabled tear on the Earth.
The menaces of peace cannot deliver peace. Similarly, hypocrite governments and non-governmental organizations cannot deliver peace by awarding individuals who participated in massacres and tortures. Because offenders involved in massacres and tortures are promoted, the world is in turmoil and chaos.
Peace can be achieved only by holding criminals accountable. Abiy Ahmed should have been summoned to the international criminal court for trial, not to Oslo for acquittal.
As the victims of injustice always say, no justice no peace! Justice is nowhere to be found: AND peace is nowhere to be delivered. Oslo is awarding peace prize in the absence of a peace stance! Oslo is promoting massacres and tortures.
